Partial monthly contribution CZK 1050

Veronica is the youngest in the family, she has two siblings. She comes from Likii slum very close to Nanyuki town, where the children and their grandmother used to live in one room. The mother left the children in grandmother‘s care. The grandmother was old and had no permanent job. Veronica and her older sister were forced to beg for money and food. They lived in a very dangerous slum, so the girls were constantly at risk of rape. The case reached the area government administrator, who visited the family and accessed their situation. He later reported it to the children officer, who brought the case to OMDC and our team enrolled Veronica in the sponsorship program. Veronica’s grandmother passed away a few years ago and now the older sister takes care of the younger siblings. Veronica is a bright and very determined girl. Now she needs to pass her final exams at elementary school. If she succeeds, she would like to continue her studies at high school and then at university. Her dream is to become a doctor.

Risper is the youngest of seven children and comes from a slum in Likia. Risper‘s mother "supported" her family by illegal alcohol distillation, and has been many times arrested. Her mother’s "job" was not safe, and Risper was constantly in danger of being raped by drunken costumers. Fortunately, a government official found out what has been going on in time and informed the OMDC. Risper is in her last year of elementary school. She is smart and eager to learn new things, she likes to play soccer and one day she would like to become a doctor.

Partial monthly contribution CZK 700

Nantarim is 17 years old and has four siblings. Even as a small child, she had to help with hard work in the household - to carry firewood from the forest, to carry water for the whole family. For most of the time, she felt lonely and wanted to go to school just like her brothers and other children. Nantarim’s father secretly arranged a wedding with a much older man. One day, while the family members were asleep, Nantarim decided to flee - she ran all night and many kilometers. She reported her case to the police. From there a social worker took her to OMDC. Later she was taken to boarding school because OMDC did not have a safe house at the time yet. Nantarim successfully passed her final exams at elementary school and she was enrolled in high school. She is an active and bright girl. Her dream is to become a prominent person and be able to support girls who have been denied their rights.

Samuel is a slightly disabled boy who spends days praying and collecting wood for fire. Although he is 14 years old, he only goes to grade 4 and needs special approach and care. Like all our children, he didn’t have easy childhood either. His father died and his mother is unemployed, she is barely able to take care of Samuel and his four siblings. Despite this, Samuel is very skilled and handy and thanks to OMDC is constantly improving!

Nasheunye was born as the third of six children, and OMDC has been taking care of her since she was six, because her father died and her mother did not earn enough money from collecting wood and water to enable her daughter to go to school. Now, thanks to the OMDC support, she can go to school and is already in seventh grade. Nasheu is very keen to do well at school so that in the future she can help other children in need as a lawyer! Please support Nasheu to persevere in her efforts!

Benjamin and his four siblings, including Zulu, whom we have already informed you about, have fallen victim to the massacre in Kanapio - the war of local clans. At that time, Benjamin went to the fifth grade and experienced terrible attacks. He gave up his dream to become a pilot. Nevertheless, the OMDC intervened and helped Benjamin fight for his dream. The boy is not giving up and is now in his second year of high school. Let’s reassure Benjamin together that his dreams can come true!

Pauline is 17 years old. She was rescued from marriage and brought to OMDC. Pauline was married off to a very elderly. She had tried to escape many times but all in vain. Pauline at her age had not attended any school. The parents were very abusive to her and even after she was rescued she was still afraid they would come to her. The police arrested the father and the case is still ongoing in the court. Pauline was later taken to school and she had to start from nursery. Within one year she learnt how to write and read and she was promoted to class one. She is a determined girl and her dream is one day to be a lawyer and be able to support other girls in the community who are being denied their rights.

OMDC 134 Ruth Rakindi

born 04/06/2005

Partial monthly contribution CZK 1000

Ruth Rakindi is 14 years old and is the youngest in the family. The father was never around, so it was only the mother who took poor care of the eight children. Ruth didn‘t go to school because she had to look after goats, which she took every day to graze in overgrown fields, where she did not feel safe. Ruth was alone all day, exposing herself to the risk of rape. She wanted to be with other children, not in the fields. She wanted to go to school just like her siblings. One day, Ruth decided to escape to the nearest police station to find out if there, they could help her with her wish to enroll in school. A police officer then visited Ruth’s family and arrested the mother. Ruth was brought to OMDC, and later she even was enrolled in school.
Ruth now feels safe— and she is! At school, she is diligent, ambitious and one of the best students. Now, her dream is to become a prominent person and to be able to support other girls in the community who have been denied their rights.

This young man was left alone in the hospital for long eight months after his mother died during the labour. A few years later he got to the OMDC home as the original children’s home was shut down. In the fire of a shack where he had lived before, the boy also suffered severe burns. Charles is now learning to be an electrician in Nanyuki and has helped several times to repair broken light bulbs and wiring in the Doldol home. Help this friendly boy finish his school so that he can find a good job afterwards!

Faith comes from Suguta Marmar. He has five brothers and five sisters, one of whom studies at Eldoret College, one in the high school sisters, but the rest of the siblings do not attend the school. Faith completed class 5, but left school in September 2018 because she was forced to marry an older, already married man (in exchange for cows). She managed to escape, but she could not return home, because her father would force her to return to her husband. Fortunately, the girl was rescued by OMDC. Her dream is to become a doctor, and because of her optimism, she believes one day she succeeds!

Evarline comes from the village of Mathanji, has ten siblings and finished 7th grade at Mathany Primary School. She left school because of forced labor the marriage (the family obtained for her several pieces of cows) in which she stayed four months before she managed to escape and report the matter to the police. A police officer referred her to the OMDC facility where we provide her basic care, but unfortunately we do not have money for tuition fees and so we ask for your help. Evarline has a strong desire for education, she is a young and ambitious lady who would like to excel in her studies and help to eradicate the threat of premature marriage.
